Provost’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Summer Fellowship
University of Oklahoma | “Measuring Up: An Analysis of Plus-Size Costuming and Theatre Practices” | Summer 2023
Over the course of ten weeks, I conducted research on the subject of plus-size costuming practices within the theatre industry, in addition to in-depth costume design and technology activity that culminated in this fellowship.
I rendered 15 costume designs designed to fit plus-size bodies. The renderings served as a valuable reference for pattern making, along with the design notations I had written with the rendering. I also created instruction booklets for the construction of the garments I had designed. These booklets include the historical context that goes along with each garment, suggestions for fabric selection and styling, and step-by-step instructions for sewing. Finally, I patterned and constructed 6 plus-size costume garments that were donated to the stock of the University of Oklahoma Costume Shop.
